Officer LaValley was tragically killed in the line of duty serving the citizens of Shreveport.

Cpl. Marcus Hines with the Shreveport Police Department calls Officer Thomas LaValley a hero.
During Thursday’s press conference Hines said, “He was doing what he loved. He literally sacrificed his life to help others.”
Cpl. Hines: “LaValley confronted the suspect that “possibly” had a warrant out for his arrest. The suspect shot Officer LaValley multiple times.”
Hines was actually the officer that hired LaValley after he met him during an interview. LaValley had been with SPD since 2011.
Chief Willie Shaw named the suspect as Grover Cannon. Cannon already had a warrant out for his arrest. He was wanted for attempted 2nd degree murder. Now 1st degree murder.
Chief Shaw said, “We are starting our search locally but we will scour the earth if we have to.”
Chief Shaw said, “All law enforcement agencies are looking for him. No where he can go, nothing he can do to stop us from bringing him to justice.”
Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler also spoke during the news conference. She visited with Officer LaValley’s mother this morning. According to Tyler over 50 police officers were at the hospital last night…”this is a true family.”
Shreveport Police Officer Thomas LaValley was shot and killed Wednesday night while responding to a call in the Queensborough neighborhood.
Sources say LaValley was from St. Amant which is outside of Baton Rouge.
LaValley was a former cameraman at a local television station.
The suspect 27-year-old Grover Cannon was taken into custody Thursday afternoon.
Memorial services for Officer Thomas LaValley, 29, of Shreveport, will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Summer Grove Baptist Church in Shreveport. Visitation will follow until 9 p.m. His funeral service and burial will be Monday in St. Amant.
