Texting Scam in Caddo Parish: Don’t Fall For It

This is Shawn.  I do afternoons here at KRMD.  A few days ago I received a text message saying my Chase card had been locked and that I should call a number.  I don’t have a Chase card, so I just deleted the text.  Well, it turns out 4 people in Caddo Parish have been texting the same message to Shreveporters and were able to steal 104,000 dollars from them.  The foursome disappeared in October of last year, but they resurfaced this month and one was even caught on bank security camera within the last few weeks.  They have been arrested.  This is how they scammed: They would send a message saying your card is locked and that you should call a number.  When you call the number, they would get you to give your account info and your pin number.  Once they had the pin number they would make a a clone of your card and make purchases from stores in the area.  That’s how we knew they were local.  So be careful.
