Shriners Children’s Shreveport will celebrate 100 years of providing life-changing care to children with a special anniversary observance on Friday, September 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Among the anniversary festivities includes the premiere screening of “Miracles, Magic and Milestones”, a new system feature produced by ABC/Disney and hosted by actress Kristen Bell. Special guests include representatives of both hospital and fraternity leadership, patient ambassadors, and Bobbi Jo Wright, who as a child was immortalized in the famous 1970 “Editorial Without Words” photo of a Shriner carrying a little girl and her crutches.
Opening on September 16, 1922, Shriners Children’s Shreveport was the first facility established in the Shriners Children’s system. For 100 years, the facility has provided vital medical to a global population of children, beginning with polio and evolving over the decades to encompass the full range of pediatric orthopedic conditions, cleft lip and palate, fractures and sports medicine. From its beginnings in Shreveport, the Shriners Children’s system has grown to include facilities across North America, with service lines that include orthopedics, burn injuries, cleft lip and palate, and spinal cord injuries. A philanthropy of the Shriners International fraternity from its inception, care at Shriners Children’s facilities continues to be provided regardless of a family’s ability to pay or insurance status.
