On March 13 at approximately 3:25 p.m., the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office received notification of a two-vehicle collision involving a school bus on Highway 478 in Louisiana.
The school bus, carrying at least 36 students and the driver, was struck by a 2009 Mazda Tribute traveling in the opposite direction.
The SUV had drifted into the oncoming lane and hit the bus almost head-on, causing the bus to veer off the road and crash into trees before coming to a stop in a ditch.
The bus driver and students escaped unharmed, while the SUV driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, was trapped in the wreckage for over 20 minutes before being airlifted to a regional trauma center for what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The collision is currently under investigation by the Louisiana State Police.
